I have an apartment on the 3rd floor, would i be able to support a portable hot tub?

Hey guys, I am in college and recently leased an apartment on the 3rd floor of a building, and it is just a regular apartment, not studio or anything. So I am just wondering, because my mother said I could have hers, but she doesnt think the floor will support it. Thanks

you’d have to ask the building manager to find out from the architect what the load capability of the floors would be….I have serious doubts…. you might be able to hold the tub, but add water, four people and the other 12 hanging out waiting their turn and then you might just hit overload…. don’t push yer luck….. balconies have fallen off buildings with too many folks on them!!…..the there’s the guy below you…. and your renter’s insurance…. and the liability on the owner of the building…. all the way around, I’m gonna guess it’s “NO”…..

my son had to reinforce his home’s living room floor just to handle his big fish tank… and I’m pretty sure your tub will be a bit bigger yet than that!….

I take it your not studying architecture. That sure would be cool and make you a popular man, but I have to agree with your mom on this one. The weight load would have to be calculated and the the structure evaluated to determine if it would support it. If it is just a standard wood frame building I have to think you would be asking for trouble. Besides the weight of all the water you would most likely need to run more electric to power it, and then there would be the possibility of a leak damaging the apartments below you.
