Hot tub chemicals – which do we really need?

Just got a new tub, it seems the dealer wants to sell a lot of chemicals (chlorine, bromine, alkalinity, ph+-) but the tub has an “ozonator” for disinfection so we are unsure which of the treatments we really need — help!

We want minimal chemical treatments, which is why we bought the model with the “ozonator” box – supposedly a new disinfectant technology — is anyone familiar with this?

Do I need to put chemicals into my hot tub?

Its usually just me in the hot tub. Are they really necesarry. Ive refilled my hot tub using water alone 6 weeks ago, and so far no problems. I usually decide to change the water when it gets cloudy or smells funny. What do you think. Am I good, or just going to have problems down the road that I have yet to find out about.

Tools That You Need To Clean The Hot Tub

Having a hot tub is a wonderful thing. But do not forget that the hot tub should be cleaned regularly; cleaning hot tub must be done to avoid bacteria or germs. Here are some tools commonly used when cleaning hot tub:

1. Telepoles

You need this tool, because it is main cleaning instrument. Telepole made of aluminum and fiberglass. It’s in various sizes, has a rounded edge or grip so your hands do not slip when cleaning your hot tub. The telepole equipped with a magnet that can retrieve metal objects such as hairpins or nails.

2. Floor and Walls Brush

These tools are used to remove the dirt, stains and materials attached to the surface.

Walls and floor brush can easily brush across every end because they have nylon bristles.

The curved kinds are used in order to get to those corners that are very tight. These floor and wall brushes also come in different sizes. Don’t use wire brushes that aren’t made of stainless steel because the bristles snap while you are brushing. It will also leave stains when they rust on the plaster. These might cause further staining so you have to check whether they are rusty.

3. Hose and Vacuum Head

The dirt in the spa or hot tub can be sucked by vacuums. There are two procedures to vacuum these equipments. The first one is to use water pressure from the hose and force the debris in the bag then removing and cleaning it with the vacuum.

The second one is to suck the dirt and sent it into the filter.

4. Tile Soap and Tile Brush

The tiles can be cleaned by using tile soap and tile brush. Tile soaps are often mixed of muriatic acids.  Tile brushes don’t bend too much in order to allow more cleaning. These cut the stubborn oils and stains.  This soap can remove oil and dirt on the surface of the hot tub. Then you can use a brush to get a cleaner result. Don’t use other kinds of soap aside from one that is made specifically for cleaning the hot tub or spa. If you do, it might only sud and foam.

5. Pumice Stones

The scales from the hot tub tiles can be removed using these tools. The stains or other deposits from the surfaces also can be removed using these pumice stones. The surface isn’t excessively scratched if you using these. These stones are specifically made for abrasive actions and they made from volcanic ash.  These stones are attached to the brushes and telepoles in order to reach the surface easier and they are often sold in blocks. Pumice stones disintegrate so we suggest that you could do the scrubbing first, after that you do the vacuuming. Plastic foams or Styrofoam can be used as another alternative instead pumice stones because these do not scratch the fiberglass.

Manual Brushing is the Best

Manual brushing is the best way to clean your pool. The debris and the stains can be removed by this way. How clean you want your tub will depend on how rigorous you brush.

Spa, Hot Tub and Pool

Besides useful for cleaning the spa and hot tub, this method can also be used to clean the pool.  Here are a few things you need to consider

1. When you clean the spa or hot tub do it very mindful including when you do the vacuuming because the spa is often made of fiberglass. If you are not careful enough, it will cause scratches on the surface of the spa.

2. Before you do the cleaning, you have to evaluate the water. Cleaning also takes your time, but if you do it correctly and regularly the results will be worth it. Your hot tub will be clean. You have to test the water in order for you determine whether you should treat it, drain it, or clean it.

Spa Shell Cleaning

Materials and equipment for cleaning the spas can be maintained, as long as you know how to care for these items.

If You Have a Portable Hot Tub, Then You Need Some Portable Safety Tips

Portable hot tubs are becoming a major fashion accessory, they are relaxing, affordable and best of all can be taken almost anywhere with you. People usually purchase a hot tub to relax and unwind. Sufferers of chronic diseases such as arthritis also use this as a way to ease there pains.

As good as hot tubs are there are some dangers that can lurk in the dark corners, if your tub is not maintained or run correctly. We will now take a look at a few aspects that can lead to a hazardous situation.

A lot of people like to use different temperatures of the hot tub, but to be safe; you should keep at a healthy heat and not overdo it. If you raise the temperature to a very high level, your skin can end up being damaged and potentially burnt. The general temperature that should be reserved is around 90-100 degrees.

Besides from burning your skin, having high temperatures can also cause a variety of other problems, particularly if you are suffering from aspects of high blood pressure. It has been medically stated, that constant high temperatures of heat and water can cause a dilation effect of the blood vessels.

With portable hot tubs you should also be careful not to trap your hands or fingers, while you are in the process of moving it around.

An additional aspect that you should remember is that these are portable hot tubs, so they are not as sturdy as the permanent fixtures. For that reason you should not overload the tub, as it may not be able to handle anything above the recommended weight, and it could in fact invalidate your warranty.

Hot tubs are a great way to relax, it has been said that spending 30 minutes a day in the hot tub will make you feel healthier and live longer. But do not take hot tubs for granted, just as with any other relaxation methods, you will have to take great care so you do not end up causing yourself injuries.

With a lot more people these days buying hot tubs, because of the sheer level of affordability that they now bring, there should now be a higher level of warnings, about what can and cannot be done. Such as putting temperature levels to a degree that will do a lot of damage. Remember you can relax and also be safe, there is no reason whatsoever in eliminating safety precautions when using a hot tub.

What Essential Accessories Do You Need For Your Hot Tub

Hot tubs have become more and more popular nowadays as a great way to unwind and relax at home, and more and more people are installing hot tubs in their homes. Not only can you enjoy soaking in the hot tub, you can also gain some great health benefits. You can soak your trouble and stress away as the hot water helps relieve the tension in your aching body. You can also do simple water exercise or water aerobics in your hot tub, which is a safe and effective way of exercising and staying in shape.

Hot tubs are generally made from cedar, redwood and teak, and can accommodate as little as one and up to more than ten people. When making your purchase, make sure to buy your hot tub from a reputable hot tub manufacturer. As long as the hot tub manufacturer has a good track record is the best guarantee of quality and service.

There is a wide range of hot tub models for you to choose from, such as the portable hot tub or home spa, You will be faced with a diverse array of hot tub features, designs, specifications and accessories so it is a good idea to arm yourself with some basic knowledge on hot tubs before you decide on your model preference. The internet is a great place to search for useful information on hot tubs and the different hot tub models available on the market. Cost is an important consideration too when you decide to buy a hot tub, which depends on the construction, size and features of the spa you select. You should also find out the operating cost of the hot tub.

Once you have installed your hot tub at home, make sure to maintain it in good working condition as it is not a cheap investment. Most hot tubs should come with a hot tub cover as this is an essential and useful hot tub accessory to have. Hot tub covers help to keep litter and impurities out of the water. A hot tub without a cover may also be hazardous as younger children or pets may accidentally fall into the hot water. Hot tub covers also help retain heat in the hot tub, thereby lowering your heating bills.

It is important that you purchase a good quality hot tub cover. Make sure that your hot tub cover is sturdy and durable so that it can be used for many years to come. Also check that your hot tub cover is the right size and fits securely over your hot tub. Having a hot tub cover that fixes securely also helps in keeping impurities and litter out of the hot tub, and also traps the heat helping keep the water nice and hot.

After prolonged use, your hot tub cover may become waterlogged and ineffective. When this happens, the cover cannot insulate the heat very well. In that situation, it may be time to get a new cover. Understand that a hot tub cover can also become worn and wrinkled where it has been folded and unfolded once too many times. A wrinkle in your hot tub cover may also allow more heat to escape, so that it is no longer effective as insulation.

Why You Need Metal Hot Tubs

There are a lot of different models of hot tubs out there, but one of the best styles of hot tubs would have to be the metal hot tubs. If you have never heard of a metal hot tub, do not worry. A lot of people have not. However, a lot of people have heard of aluminum hot tubs, which are the same thing. Today we are going to go over why metal hot tubs could be the best choice to go with. We are going to talk about not only how they work, but why they are so simple to keep clean and ready to use!

Aluminum hot tubs are great, because they use no electricity. There are some that you can get nowadays that do indeed use electricity, but most people get the metal hot tubs so that they do not have to worry about that. See, these hot tubs have a heating unit that is submerged under the tub itself. There are usually two different kinds of fuel that you use for these kinds of hot tubs. There is wood and coal. Most people choose to go with wood, but it is up to you. So you can see that these kinds of units work just like a stove. However, they do not burn you, because the shell of the heating unit is made of a highly heat conductive metal. This just warms up the air just outside the heating unit, which in turn warms up the water to perfect temperature.

Now as you can guess, one good thing about the metal hot tubs and spa covers is that they cost a lot less than other electricity using hot tubs. Thus, more people can afford to get them. However, another good thing about it is the fact that aluminum is very easy to clean. Also, since it has a cast aluminum door, there is no rust to worry about, which just so happens to be one of the things people think would be bad when it comes to metal tubs. Maintenance to the heating unit is very easy to do as well. There is usually a tray that slides right out, and you can throw away the ashes. Last, but not least, these tubs are not going to run up your power bill, and you can keep them running all day long. Just simply keep logs on the fire, and you are good to go.

There is nothing to worry about with these metal hot tubs, they pretty much take care of themselves. They are coated in a powder that helps mineral deposits from the water from forming. After all, things like magnesium and calcium minerals can corrode away metal. However, that is something that you will not have to worry about. A metal hot tub is great, and there is nothing extra that you will have to do to protect it. These kinds of hot tubs are best friends to families that can not afford a hot tub of their own. However, if you have kids, you will have to be careful. You will have to watch them while the tub is being heated and not let them in the heating chamber.
